Calyx & Teebee Come Full Circle in Their Sound With ‘Plates’

Grimy, raw, and uncompromisingly gritty: the two latest tracks from the drum’n’bass power house that is Calyx & Tebee are just that. “War Dub” and “Cloak & Dagger” are two massive tracks that will be part of their upcoming album Plates which will follow by a tour of the same name. The name of the album and subsequent tour is intended to get back in touch with the attitude and style of dubplate culture. Dubplate is the Jamaican term referring to acetate discs which produce their own unique audio style and were pioneered by the reggae music scene; dubplates and Jamaican reggae would become crucial in influencing the emergence and culture of drum’n’bass, jungle, UK garage and dubstep.

Calyx & Teebee are taking a unique approach to the release of their highly-anticipated album. The duo plans to release singles off the album without any set release dates and is operating without a set release date for the album itself. The pair is creating without the pressure and constraints normally imposed on artists in the music industry and is instead choosing to let their creativity flow and allow their music production to come from an organic place. Most importantly, their approach is working for them; “War Dub” and “Cloak and Dagger” don’t fail to impress and sound both highly stylized but with frayed untamed edges that speak to the pioneering dubplate culture that Calyx & Teebee are striving for.

Calyx & Tebee are two remarkable producers with over two decades worth of diligent work in the music scene. Now with the emergence of Plates they are coming full circle with their sound and vibe. The Plates tour will be supported by Break and The Upbeats and is sure to generate the invigorating bold attitude molded into the origins of drum’n’bass.
