Big Dub Artist Spotlight: Habstrakt

From humble beginnings as a young guitar player in a small village south of France, the now 25 year-old international DJ, HABSTRAKT, has made a prominent name for himself in the EDM scene. Emerging as a dubstep and drum’n’bass DJ in 2008, HABSTRAKT has since then been picked up by the distinguished label, Never Say Die Records, bringing his unique and energetic sound across the globe including stops in Australia, Europe, New Zealand, Beirut, Lebanon, and the U.S.

Blazing through his North American tour, the French artist most recently brought the house down at little festival known as EDC Las Vegas. His set featured an epic super bass collaboration with the well-established DJ Eptic. HABSTRAKT has also had the chance to collaborate with artist such as Skism and Megalodon, and create remixes for Skrillex & Diplo, MUST Die! and Barely Alive.

Making a perfect addition to the talent at Big Dub, HABTRAKT’s sound incorporates elements of dubstep, house, garage, drum’n’bass, and hip-hop, offering a blended range of genres and tone. While extremely flexible, HABSTRAKT’s sound is also clearly defined; his personal music formula features screechy bass sounds, metallic and organic textures, tight and bright drums, and the use of funny samples.

HABSTRAKT is certainly an artist to keep an eye on. Currently he has begun work on his next EP for Never Say Die Records; “I’m going into a genre blending adventure again, [and] this time I’m taking collaborators with me!”, stated HABSTRAKT in an interview. Additionally, the artist announced that he and Eptic have just finished a new collaboration called “On the Block”, which HABSTRAKT describes as “a very weird house-ish, very aggressive, 128bpm track, in which dubstep fans won’t be disappointed !” Likewise, dubstep fans are sure not to be disappointed with HABSTRAKT at his final tour stop at Big Dub Festival this year.
